Congregation Shaarei Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation. Mishkan T’filah, the first new siddur for the North American Reform Movement in more than thirty years, is the prayer book used in our services. All prayers are in English and Hebrew with transliterations so everyone can participate!
Our cantor’s voice and guitar lead us in music that is both accessible and easily singable. The playing of tambourines by congregants is a regular part of our Friday evening services. Occasionally, we have piano music at special services throughout the year and always during the High Holy Days.
We conduct weekly participatory Shabbat evening services at 7:30 p.m. and Shabbat morning services at 10:00 a.m. Shabbat services and all evening and morning Festival services , according to their times and seasons, are conducted in our sanctuary located at 5919 Riverdale Avenue. Our High Holy Days services are conducted in the Auditorium of Public School 24 located on West 235th Street between Independence and Douglas Avenues, opposite the Spuyten Duyvil library.
