Congregation Shaarei Shalom offers rich and varied opportunities in religious education for both children and adults.

Weekly Wednesday evening and Thursday morning Adult Education classes are conducted by our rabbi on a variety of topics to include ethics, Jewish history, Talmud, Midrash, the Prophets, current events, and Israeli literature.

Congregation Shaarei Shalom is a community that nurtures a love of Jewish learning for our members regardless of one's age or prior knowledge of Jewish tradition. Towards that end, the curriculum used in our Religious School offers a foundation in Jewish values, ritual, history, the State of Israel, and the Hebrew language.

Essential to our goal of inspiring lifelong learning is our belief that living as Reform Jews lends meaning and purpose to our lives as human beings.

The curriculum is designed to encompass the three fundamental principles of Judaism:

Torah - the study of the texts that form our Jewish heritage
Avodah - sacred, communal worship
G'milut Hasadim - acts of loving kindness

We recognize that children embrace learning and the import of Jewish life when, with their families, they study, and experience Jewish worship and celebrations together.

All Religious School instruction is held in our facility at 5919 Riverdale Avenue.

Classes begin at 4:00 p.m.. Each child attends school for only one day during the week either on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon.

Instruction is offered for:

Kindergarten thru Grade 3 for a foundation of Jewish knowledge
Grades 4 thru 7 with preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Grades 8 and 9 with preparation for Confirmation
Grades 10 thru 12 for advanced High School level study.

Classes are taught by clergy and lay teachers. All students receive a modern Reform Jewish education utilizing recently developed grade and subject specific curricula. Customized instruction is also provided to meet the specific learning needs of each student.

There are no registration fees. Tuition is FREE for all members for the first year of instruction for any grade, except grade 7.

A special Religious School Handbook is available with more detailed information on our school's curriculum. To receive a copy and for more information about our school and registering your child, please contact Rabbi Burton, who also serves as our Director of Education.
